AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Qatar’s Foreign Ministry has announced that a deal has been reached to extend the humanitarian truce in Gaza by two days.
“The State of Qatar announces, as part of the ongoing mediation, an agreement has been reached to extend the humanitarian pause for an additional two days in the Gaza Strip,” Qatar’s Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Majed Al Ansari said in a post on X, formerly Twitter, on Monday night.
The Palestinian Resistance Movement, Hamas, also announced that the truce was extended in agreement with Qatar and Egypt, the two countries that mediated the temporary ceasefire.
The truce, which initially came into force on November 24, was due to end on Monday. It was announced last week following long negotiations.
The temporary ceasefire brought a pause in relentless Israeli airstrikes on Gaza, while hundreds of trucks entered the besieged territory to bring in essential supplies. Also, Hamas and the Israeli regime exchanged prisoners.
Following the announcement of the truce extension, Israeli media reported that the International Committee of the Red Cross had announced its readiness to receive the fourth group of captives released by Hamas.
