Bahraini prisoner Abduljalil Al-Singace wins MESA Academic Freedom Award

Prisoner of conscience in Jaw Central Prison and leader of the "Haq" movement, Dr. Abduljalil Al-Singace, won the "MESA Academic Freedom Award" for 2023.

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Prisoner of conscience in Jaw Central Prison and leader of the "Haq" movement, Dr. Abduljalil Al-Singace, won the "MESA Academic Freedom Award" for 2023.

MESA is the oldest and most prestigious Middle Eastern Studies Association in the United States.

Opposition activist Alaa Al-Shehabi considered, in a post on the "X" platform, that "this award is a message (from the association) to Al-Singace that he is not forgotten and we are still calling for his release."

Abduljalil Al-Singace is a Bahraini academic. He was a prominent human rights activist, a blogger and one of the so-called "Bahrain 13" group, which includes political leaders who were arrested by the authorities for expressing their views on the peaceful movement that began in Bahrain in February 2011.

Al-Singace was sentenced to life imprisonment on charge of "attempting to overthrow the Government" and his academic researchers were confiscated.
