Bahraini political prisoner launches hunger strike again

Bahraini political prisoner Abd Ali Al-Singace once again announced starting hunger strike to demand his release, retrial and the formation of an independent investigation committee into human rights abuses and violations against him.

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Bahraini political prisoner Abd Ali Al-Singace once again announced starting hunger strike to demand his release, retrial and the formation of an independent investigation committee into human rights abuses and violations against him.

In an audio recording, Al-Singace called for his release and retrial unconditionally, "because my stay in prison is illegal," stressing "the judiciary's violation of the conditions of a fair trial, the first of which is the defendant's attendance at the trial sessions," on condition of contacting the competent authorities and the "Public Prosecution" for a retrial.

While protesting against the "arbitrary and invalid criminal rulings," Al-Singace called for the formation of an independent committee to investigate his case and define legal abuses and human rights accusations.

On Sunday, September 17, 2023, Al-Singace announced launching a hunger strike in protest against being banned from attending the funeral procession for his deceased son, after the authorities had previously promised him to attend.

On May 15, 2013, a civilian militia arrested Al-Singace after they stormed his home in Maqabah and beat him. Activists posted photos of traces of blood in his home and the contents which the militias sabotaged.

Until his arrest, Al-Singace was known for his public political and field activism and support for the popular movement in various regions since its beginning in 2011.
