World failing to meet bare entitlements of a part of Humanity - UN Humanitarian Chief

“The world is failing to meet the bare entitlements of a part of humanity”, UN Humanitarian Chief Martin Griffiths wrote on social media.

AhlulBayt News Agency: “The world is failing to meet the bare entitlements of a part of humanity”, UN Humanitarian Chief Martin Griffiths wrote on social media.

He noted that 20 days into Israel’s bombardment of Gaza, the attacks “are getting worse, even in areas supposed to be safer”, Al-Jazeera reported.

“Aid is barely trickling in, despite our best efforts,” Griffiths added, stressing that civilians must be protected and have what they need to survive, while desperately needed assistance must be allowed to reach those who need it.

Meanwhile, the World Health Organization (WHO) demanded “unobstructed access” to deliver life-saving assistance to Gaza.

“The humanitarian and health crisis in Gaza has reached catastrophic proportions,” said Dr Ahmed Al-Mandhari, the agency’s regional director for the Eastern Mediterranean.

“Each passing moment places countless lives in jeopardy. The world should not tolerate further impediments to our mission of saving those at risk,” he added.

A UN official has warned that “nowhere is safe in Gaza” as Israeli airstrikes continued on the Gaza Strip.

The UN humanitarian coordinator for the occupied Palestinian territory, Lynn Hastings, said on Thursday that "nowhere is safe in Gaza", despite the Israeli evacuation warnings.

Israeli forces have warned more than 1 million civilians in northern Gaza to evacuate their homes and move south in anticipation of an expected ground invasion.

Israel waged the war on Gaza on October 7 after the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas launched Operation Al-Aqsa Storm.

The death toll in Gaza since the start of Israeli aggression has exceeded 7,000 with more than 18,000 wounded, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry.
