AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres expressed concern over the violation of international law Gaza Strip, blaming the Israeli regime for the Hamas Oct 7 attack on occupied territories.
"I am deeply concerned about the clear violations of international humanitarian law that we are witnessing in Gaza. Let me be clear: No party to an armed conflict is above international humanitarian law," Guterres said during a Security Council meeting on the Zionist Israeli regime's onslaught on Gaza.
The UN secretary general further condemned Hamas's attack on the occupied territories but stated that "it is important to also recognize the attack by Hamas did not happen in a vacuum. The Palestinian people have been subjected to 56 years of suffocating occupation. They have seen their lands steadily devoured by settlements and plagued by violence, their economies stifled, their people displaced and their homes demolished. Their hopes for a political solution to their plight have been vanishing."
Guterres called the aid convoys that have entered Gaza from Egypt through the Rafah Crossing in recent days "a drop of aid in an ocean of need. In addition, our UN fuel supplies in Gaza will run out in a matter of days. That would be another disaster."
"To ease epic suffering, make the delivery of aid easier and safer, and facilitate the release of hostages, I reiterate my appeal for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire," he said.
In response to Guterres remarks, the Israeli regime UN envoy has called for his resignation.
Israel waged a war on Gaza on October 7 after the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas launched the surprise Operation Al-Aqsa Storm against the occupying entity in response to the Israeli regime's decades-long campaign of bloodletting and devastation against Palestinians.
Since the start of the Israeli aggression, more than 5,000 Palestinians have been killed.
Tel Aviv has also blocked water, food, and electricity to Gaza, plunging the coastal strip into a humanitarian crisis.
The regime has further ordered 1.1 million people in the north of Gaza to evacuate and move south of the coastal sliver.
However, it has continued to rain down bombs on the south, killing large numbers of Palestinians.
The United Nations says about half of the Palestinians in Gaza have been made homeless, still trapped inside the besieged enclave.
The world body’s human rights office says Israel’s complete siege of Gaza, combined with the evacuation order, could amount to a forcible transfer of civilians, breaching international law.
