AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian says supporting the Axis of Resistance is a principled policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Speaking with Al-Vefagh newspaper in an interview published on Sunday, Amirabdollahian said Iran always stands by the oppressed people of the world and strives to contribute to regional stability and security.
He said despite facing the consequences of supporting the Palestinian and Lebanese resistance movements, the Islamic Republic openly states that it is on their side.
The chief Iranian diplomat also argued that although Iran has interactions with Eastern and Western countries to secure its national interests, it has a “neither East nor West” policy to maintain its independence.
However, he continued, the Axis of Resistance is considered “one of the most important aspects of our foreign policy.”
Elsewhere in his comments, Amirabdollahian pointed out that certain Arab countries normalized their ties with the Zionist regime, but the move has caused the regime to ignore those countries’ sovereignty.
“Our security agencies have detailed documentation that the Zionist regime ignores the sovereignty of those countries and takes actions against the security of the region without their knowledge,” he said.
“Therefore, to imagine that normalization of relations with the Zionist regime brings benefits to the Islamic world and the countries of the region is far from the truth,” he added.
Amirabdollahian made clear that even if one day all Arab and Islamic countries seek to normalize their relations with the “fake and aggressive Zionist regime,” the Islamic Republic of Iran will not give up its principle of defending the resistance in the region.
“Supporting the resistance means guaranteeing a region that we, as Iran, live in,” he stated.
In his remarks, the Iranian foreign minister said the leaders of the Arab countries, the Islamic states, and the region understand the position of Syria well, adding that they know that Syria is not a country that can be deleted from the regional equations, Amirabdollahian underlined.
On the issue of security in the joint borders between Syria and Turkey, Amirabdollahian said the Islamic Republic pursues consultation with its Turkish brothers about finding ways to both remove Turkiye’s concerns and preserve Syria’s territorial integrity.
