Imam Hussein Holy Shrine's flags raised in India mosques

Flags of the holy shrine of Imam Hussein (AS) were raised in a number of mosques and Husseiniyas (Shia religious centers) in India.

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Flags of the holy shrine of Imam Hussein (AS) were raised in a number of mosques and Husseiniyas (Shia religious centers) in India.

The flags along with other blessed gifts were gifted by the Astan (custodianship) of the holy shrine.

Saadaddin al-Bana, representative of the Astan who has traveled to Bangalore to attend a conference about the third Shia Imam (AS), attended a ceremony to gift one of flags to a mosque.

The conference, which was held with the motto of “diversity and solidarity”, was attended by representatives of different faiths and Islamic schools of thought.

Al-Bana said Shia Muslims in India attach great importance to things that strengthen their bond with Imam Hussein (AS).

He noted that many Shia Muslims in the area may not be able to travel to the holy city of Karbala in Iraq to visit the holy shrine of Imam Hussein (AS) and therefore pay their tribute through holding religious ceremonies in their hometowns.

Islam is India’s second-largest religion, with about 15% of the country’s population, or approximately 200 million people, identifying as adherents of Islam.

It is estimated that some 15 percent of the country’s Muslims are followers of Shia Islam.
