AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): On Saturday 29th July, thousands of Muslims in Accra marked the holy day of Ashura with a march across the capital city of Accra.
The group gathered to mourn the innocent victims who have lost their lives to terrorism and to denounce violence carried out in the name of religion.
Muslim men and women of all ages including children and different backgrounds especially young people carried banners and chanted elegies to remember Imam Hussain's (A.S) school of thought and his message.
At the event one of the woman who took part states how happy she is to be part of this event. "Am happy for today and I call on all Muslim around the globe to always be part of this sad event in the history of Islam which happened on the 10th day of Muharram at Karbala" Mr Saeed Sandow who was also part of the event explained how important this day is to all minkind in terms of fighting for freedom, fighting against tyranny.
"Imam Hussain (AS) is the epitome of the struggle against tyranny and untruthfulness, he is revered by people of different religious denominations around the world".
Muharram is one of the holiest months in the Islamic calendar when Muslims across the world perform rituals to mourn the martyrdom of Hussain Ibn Ali (AS), the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), who got martyred in 680 AD at the Battle of Karbala, in Iraq.
