AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria marked the Ashura procession in Abuja, Kano, and Katsina to remember Imam Hussain (PBUH), the third Shia Imam, on Friday.
The mourners in Nigeria's capital, Abuja, held red flags while chanting "labbayk ya Hussain," which translates to "We answer your call, Imam Hussain."
In Katsina, North Western Nigeria, a large number of people joined the ritual procession to show their agony and grievances on the martyrdom of Imam Hussain.
Ashura is the 10th day of Muharram. In 61 AH (October 10, 680 CE), Imam Hussein (AS) and his true companions were martyred in the battle against the army of then-time tyrant Yazid I, led by 'Umar b. Sa'd.
Friday, July 28, 2023, Muharram 10, 1445 AH was Ashura day; people in Iran and other parts of the world started mourning rituals either in mosques or in the streets, from the morning, on the anniversary of Imam Hussain's (AS) martyrdom.
It is stated in Shia and Sunni books that God had previously informed the Holy Prophet through a revelation about the martyrdom of Imam Hussain by people who claimed to be Muslims.
Upon being notified about the tragic Karbala massacre against the Prophet's holy Household members, the Holy Prophet broke down into tears and mourned.
