AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): The first ceremony to commemorate Imam Hussain's (AS) Afghan 'Pir Gholams' was held in Mashhad, northeastern Iran, by the Imamiya Cleric Society of Herat of Afghanistan.
'Pir Gholams' are referred to those men who have spent their lifetime in service of commemorating Imam Hussain (AS) and keeping alive the teachings of Ashura.
The Head of Religious Ceremonies for Afghan Nationals living in Mashhad, Yadollah Sheikhzadeh, said in the ceremony that the community of the Pir Gholams, as an influential class in the society, especially for teenagers and adults, should play a significant role in promoting Ashura culture in the society.
He said that honoring the Pir Gholams can present them as role models to the religious society, along with the promotion of Ashura culture.
More than 1,300 years ago, in 61 AH, Imam Hussein (AS), a grandson of Islam's Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), and his 72 companions were martyred in the Battle of Karbala, in southern Iraq, after fighting courageously for justice against the much larger army of the Umayyad caliph, Yazid I.
Their sacrifices for justice and freedom left precious teachings for humanity forever to not surrender to the world's wrongdoer arrogant powers.
