AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Muslim users of social media across the world have launched a campaign and called for boycotting Swedish products in protest against the recent desecration of the Holy Quran which was authorized by the Swedish court and was done under police protection.
This campaign was launched following the statement of Egypt’s Al-Azhar University, which had called for boycotting Swedish products in protest against the recent desecration of the Holy Quran.
Al-Azhar, in its statement, had called on Muslims to boycott Swedish products.
According to Egypt Today, “Al-Azhar calls on world Fatwa centers and bodies to issue a fatwa obligating a boycott of Swedish products, in support of the Noble Qur’an,” the statement read, besides calling upon “the governments of Muslim and Arab countries to take serious and unified stances towards those violations that are by no means acceptable.”
Prior to this, in a statement issued on Saturday, "
The EU joins the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs in its strong rejection of the burning of a Quran by an individual in Sweden. This act in no way reflects the opinions of the European Union."
"Burning the Quran or any other Holy Book is offensive, disrespectful, and a clear act of provocation," the European Union has said in a statement condemning the burning of the Quran in Sweden.
