AhlulBayt News Agency: The grand mufti of al-Azhar University in Egypt will soon visit the top Shia jurist Ayatollah Ali Sistani in the Iraqi holy city of Najaf.
Egyptian senator Khalid Kandil, hosting the recent meeting of Bahr-ul-Ulum, said Sheikh Ahmad al Tayyeb is expected to visit the senior Shia scholar in July this year.
Kandil added that the meeting is held due to the importance of Najaf Seminary and al-Azhar University as two social and moderate religious centers in the world of Islam.
Sources had previously referred to a likely trip by al-Azhar mufti to Iraq in a bid to meet with Ayatollah Sistani.
The trip will be a historical meeting between leaders of prominent Shia and Sunni academies.
