Software developed to Predict Crescent Moon Visibility

Iranian computer specialist, Ali Reza Hakimi, has announced production of the first software for predicting the visibility of the lunar crescent.

He noted the project for designing the software was an interdisciplinary project developed based on the two sciences of astronomy and artificial intelligence.

The software shows the position and visibility of the moon on every night from two thousand years ago until 5 thousand years later with a 2% margin of error.

Before this, the method developed by famous Iranian scientist Khaje Nasir-ed-din Tousi was used to predict the visibility of the crescent moon, which is important for calculating the dates of the holy month of Ramadan and other Islamic months.
