Int’l Quran contest underway in Jordan

An international Quran competition is underway in Jordan, organized by the country’s Awqaf, Islamic Affairs and Holy Places Ministry.

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): An international Quran competition is underway in Jordan, organized by the country’s Awqaf, Islamic Affairs and Holy Places Ministry.

Jordanian Minister of Awqaf Islamic Mohammad Ahmad Muslim Al Khalayleh addressed the opening ceremony on Tuesday, welcoming the participants on behalf of the Arab country’s king.

He noted that the competition in the women section was held in March and this one, being held in the holy month of Ramadna, is the section for men.

He stressed that Jordan attaches importance to Quranic activities, teaching the Quran and serving the Holy Book, according to Ammon News.

Khalayleh also noted that those contenders who score above 90 out of 100 points in the competition will receive certificates of Quran memorization from the ministry.

The competition is being held in different categories of memorization of the Holy Quran along with observation of the rules of Tajweed.

Ali Reza Sameri from Iran’s Khuzestan province is representing the Islamic Republic in the Quran competition.

He is competing in the category of memorization of the entire Holy Quran.

Jordan is a Muslim-majority country in the Middle East. Followers of Islam make up around 95 percent of the country's population.

During the blessed month of Ramadan, which is the month when the Holy Quran was revealed to the Holy Prophet (PBUH), various Quranic events and activities, including competitions, are organized across the Muslim world.
