39th International Quran contest kicks off in Tehran

Iran’s 39th International Holy Quran Competition kicked off in Tehran on Feb. 18, 2023.

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Iran’s 39th International Holy Quran Competition kicked off in Tehran on Feb. 18, 2023.

The opening ceremony of the international Quranic event is underway in Iran's International Conference Center, concurrent with the occasion of Eid Al-Maba’ath (the appointment anniversary of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

The competition’s categories include memorization, recitation, and Tartil for men, and memorization and Tartil for women.

A total of 149 Quran reciters and memorizers from 80 countries, including 114 men and 35 women, took part in the first round.

In the contest, 32 Quranic experts participate; 22 Iranian Quran experts and 10 from other countries, namely Lebanon, Kuwait, Bahrain, Iraq, Afghanistan, Jordan, Syria, and Tajikistan.

Fifty-two qaris (Quran reciters) and memorizers from Iran will compete in the final stage with participants from 32 countries. The motto of the 39th edition of the event, like the previous one, is “One Book, One Ummah”, indicating the significance that the Islamic Republic of Iran attaches to unity and fraternity among Muslim nations.

The qualifier contest had earlier been held in Mashhad in northeastern Iran.
