Ayatollah Nourmofidi: Quran mandates unity, compassion among Muslims

Representative of Supreme Leader in Golestan Province called on all Muslims to view unity and compassion as a duty and stressed that to maintain solidarity is a mandate in view of holy Qur’an.

AhlulBayt News Agency: Representative of Supreme Leader in Golestan Province called on all Muslims to view unity and compassion as a duty and stressed that to maintain solidarity is a mandate in view of holy Qur’an.

Ayatollah Seyyed Kazem Nourmofidi, speaking at the second Regional Islamic Unity Conference held in Iran’s northern Province of Golestan highlighted importance of compassion and solidarity among Muslims and said all Shia and Sunni figures in history of Islam have promoted Islamic unity.
 
He said,” The issue of Shia and Sunni has nothing to do with our country Iran as we are all Muslims and according to holy Qur’an, necessity of Islamic solidarity is a topic related to the entire world of Islam.”
 
Top cleric called on Muslims from different denominations to know each other and endeavor to promote Islamic unity “since solidarity is the beginning step for advancement in all fields.”
 
He warned of enemies making their utmost efforts to divide Muslims and said,” In order to achieve unity, we should keep that as a religious duty and a culture in our Islamic society.”
 
Muslim scholars should stress necessity of Islamic solidarity because that guarantees the interests of Islamic nation.
 
Representative of the Supreme Leader in Golestan Province said,” Mutual respect, proper understanding of each other, isolation of those damaging Islam, awareness against enemies, building a joint discourse and also confrontation with oppression are all necessities to create Islamic solidarity.”
 
He reiterated importance of holding regional Islamic unity conferences in a bid to exchange views between Shia and Sunni Muslims.
 
Ayatollah Nourmofidi made the comments at the opening of the second Regional Islamic Unity Conference held in Gorgan on Wednesday.
 
A number of Shia and Sunni scholars from Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Turkmenistan attended the meeting held by World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought.
 
Regional Islamic Unity Conferences are held in line with the annual Islamic Unity Conference held by the major Islamic unity center in Iran concurrent with the birth anniversary of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH).
