Palestinian cancer-stricken prisoner Sufan’s health deteriorating

The Palestinian Prisoners Society (PPS) has said that the health condition of the cancer-stricken prisoner Musa Sufan has been rapidly deteriorating due to the Israeli policy of medical neglect.

AhlulBayt News Agency: The Palestinian Prisoners Society (PPS) has said that the health condition of the cancer-stricken prisoner Musa Sufan has been rapidly deteriorating due to the Israeli policy of medical neglect.

In a press statement on Sunday, the PPS said that prisoner Sufan, who is diagnosed with a cancerous tumor in the lung, was supposed to complete his biologic treatment by the end of 2022, stressing that the Israeli prison administration claims that the treatment is not available.

The PPS affirmed that prisoner Sufan suffers from severe cough as he is only getting painkillers which negatively affected his body.

Sufan, who has been detained since 2003, is serving a life imprisonment sentence. He had been placed in solitary confinement several times and had been on hunger strike in protest at the Israeli policy of medical neglect.

In a related development, Palestinian prisoners threatened to escalate their protest steps due to the continuous punitive measures practiced by the Israeli prison service after Minister of National Security Itamar Ben Gvir had vowed to impose strict measures on them, according to Qadoura Faris, the head of the PPS.

Around 600 patients, including 23 diagnosed with cancer or cancerous tumors, are currently held in Israeli prisons.
