Bahrain opposition groups slam regime for banning Quran desecration protest rally

Bahrain’s main opposition group, the al-Wefaq National Islamic Society, condemned the ruling Al Khalifa regime for preventing people from holding a rally in protest at Quran desecration in Europe.

AhlulBayt News Agency: Bahrain’s main opposition group, the al-Wefaq National Islamic Society, condemned the ruling Al Khalifa regime for preventing people from holding a rally in protest at Quran desecration in Europe.

On Friday, Bahraini security forces arrested tens of citizens who were going to stage the rally, according to Al-Mayadeen news website.

They also blocked all the paths to the Bait al-Quran Center near the Swedish embassy where the demonstration was going to be organized.

People, however, held desaturations elsewhere against the sacrilegious acts.

Hussein al-Daihi, deputy secretary general of the group, in a statement described the move as disgraceful and reprehensible, saying it shows the repressive nature of the regime’s mindset.

He said the regime’s fake slogans of religious tolerance are a cover for moving toward Zionists, stressing that the Manama regime is the biggest enemy of freedom of speech.

People held monumental rallies across several Muslim countries throughout the world on Friday, condemning instances of desecration of the Holy Quran in Europe.

They came after a notorious Swedish-Danish extremist, Rasmus Paludan, received permission from Sweden’s government to burn the holy book in front of the Turkish Embassy in Stockholm less than a week ago. Paludan was being protected by the Swedish police while committing the sacrilege.

The incident was followed by Edwin Wagensveld, who heads the Dutch chapter of the German anti-Islam group Pegida's tearing pages out of the divine book during a one-man protest at The Hague.
