AhlulBayt News Agency: A senior Russian cleric praised Martyr Qassem Soleimani as a great character who spent his life to defend Islamic values and beliefs.

Mufti Nafigulla Ashirov, chairman of the Spiritual Board of Muslims of Asian Russia, in an interview with IQNA News highlighted different aspects of Martyr Soleimani’s character and achievements.

He talked on the sidelines of an international conference titled “Martyr Soleimani, Global Hero of Resistance”, which was held in Tehran earlier this week.

Sheikh Ashirov said General Soelimani was a peace-seeking person because he struggled for peace and for an end to terrorism and for protecting the region and its nations.

He said General Soleimani confronted all evils and lived a heroic life to restore justice to the world.

Referring to the assassination of the top commander by the United States, he said it was a crime that violated all international laws and charters and shows the US’ opposition to peace and peaceful coexistence.

Ashirov added that the US imagines it is the ruler of the world and that the crime will go unpunished but the fact is that there must be a response to it so that the world will not witness such crimes again.

The Russian Muslim cleric also underlined General Soleimani’s efforts to promote proximity of Islamic schools of thought, saying that the senior commander brought the hearts of Shia and Sunni Muslims closer together.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Sheikh Ashirov highlighted the importance of Muslim unity and said learning and acting upon Quranic teachings will pave the way for strengthened unity among Muslims in the world,

Lt. General Soleimani, who was the commander of the IRGC Quds Force, Iraqi Popular Mobilization Units (PMU) Deputy Commander Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, and a number of their entourage were assassinated in a strike by American drones near Baghdad International Airport in the early hours of January 3, 2020.
