Ahlulbayt News Agency: Senior Iranian Cleric Grand Ayatollah Hossein Noori Hamedani on Saturday denounced the recent insulting cartoons published by French magazine Charlie Hebdo, calling on international bodies of the Islamic world to follow up the issue.
According to a statement issued by the office of Ayatollah Noori Hamedani, he slammed France for desecrating Muslim sanctities despite claims that it advocates freedom.
The cleric said that the insults to Muslim sanctities are undoubtedly carried out under direction of “Zionist bosses”, but those behind such acts should know that they will gain nothing, and that nations will remain awakened in their struggle against arrogance by the US, Saudi Arabia and the Zionist regime.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry has also strongly condemned Charlie Hebdo for publishing the insulting cartoons.
The ministry on Thursday announced the closure of the French Research Institute, which is the cultural wing of the European country embassy in Tehran.
The Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the closure is the first step in response to the desecrating act by the French magazine.
