Iranian Embassy in Pakistan calls Gen. Soleimani assassination ‘threat to global peace’

The Iranian Embassy in Pakistan issued a statement on the third anniversary of the US assassination of top general Qassem Soleimani, calling the assassination a strategic mistake and big threat to global peace and security.

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): The Iranian Embassy in Pakistan issued a statement on the third anniversary of the US assassination of top general Qassem Soleimani, calling the assassination a strategic mistake and big threat to global peace and security.

The embassy issued the statement on Monday, a day ahead of the martyrdom anniversary of Lieutenant General Soleimani, who was the commander of the Quds Force of Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC).

The statement condemned “the heinous terrorist act”, calling it a clear example of state terrorism by the US criminal regime, which shows its hypocrisy and double standards towards the most basic international human rights.

“The terrorist act against one of top generals of a member state of the United Nations is a clear violation of international law and Geneva conventions. This act, as a criminal and aggressive measure, is a big threat to peace and security in the region and the world. The US has sought to weaken the axis of fighting against takfiri and terrorist groups like Daesh by assassinating one of the greatest commanders of that fight,” the statement said.

Three years on since General Soleimani’s assassination, Iran remains determined to bring to justice the perpetrators of “this brutal crime” and their supporters, the statement further said, adding “this assassination can be followed up as an international criminal act at the world’s courts such as the International Criminal Court (ICC).”

“Although the US has refused to join the ICC in order to avoid accountability for such evil acts, the Islamic Republic will use all of its political, legal and international capacities to pursue the assassination case through lawful means,” the statement stressed.
