AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Iraq’s education ministry said ceremonies will be held in schools in the Arab country to commemorate commanders of victory Lt. General Qassem Soleimani and Abu Mahdi Al-Muhandis.
On January 3, 2020, a US drone strike near Baghdad International Airport assassinated General Soleimani, former commander of the Quds Force of Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps.
The attack, which also killed Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, the second-in-command of Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Units (PMU) anti-terror group, along with several others -- came while General Soleimani was on an official visit to the Iraqi capital.
As the third anniversary of the assassinations nears, the Iraqi education ministry said the two popular commanders will be commemorated in schools in the country on January 15.
It said on the anniversary of the martyrdom of the commanders of victory who saved Iraq from the Daesh (ISIL or ISIS) terrorist group and thwarted enemy plots, students, teachers and school staff will observe a minute of silence and then recite Surah al-Fatihah for the souls of the martyrs.
In Iran, too, various programs are planned to be held all over the country to honor the memory of General Soleimani and his comrades.
