At the 7th anniversary of the massacre, he narrated the events of that days in an interview. Here is parts of his sayings in this interview:
"This is really a long story. Perhaps I can say it wasn’t on Saturday that the incident started. It started before that time . Arba’in procession was held nine days before attack. And when we set for the Arba’in trek, we got information that they intended to descend on us" he said.
“And they wowed that they would never allow the Arba’in trekkers to enter Zaria, and even if the trekkers enter they would finish them once and for all, and if some of them managed to get out of Zaria, they would make sure that they attack them on their way back and finish them. They made the plan. And by the will of Allah, we managed to conduct Arba’in,” he added.
Shaikh Zakzaky went on to say “However, they detonated bombs on the Kano to Zaria road. Where they killed around 23 people”.
