Speaking at the ceremony of the "International Day of Persons with Disabilities" before noon today, Ayatollah Dr Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi congratulated the people with disabilities on this day, and also thanked those involved in organising this meeting and said, "Perhaps the people with disabilities have physical defects but God has given them abilities that they have been able to take great steps in the direction of science and education, sports, social, cultural, economic and productive activities with great effort".
Pointing out that we have had many famous people who have done great things in various scientific, social and sports fields despite having disabilities and are considered to be proud, the President added, "The parents of people with disabilities, beyond the feeling that parents usually have for their children, feel more responsible for their children with disabilities, which is very valuable".
The President emphasised the necessity of creating equal social opportunities for people with disabilities and stated, "All institutions and organisations are responsible for making their best efforts to create the basis for the growth and flourishing of the talents of people with disabilities and also to create job opportunities for them".
The President added, "Adaptation of the condition of streets and public and urban centres for the movement of people with disabilities is one of the most important responsibilities of all officials and institutions towards these people. Also, the creation of rehabilitation centres and facilities for people with disabilities should be followed by a revolutionary and jihadist work so that all disabled people in the country can access such centres in a suitable and sufficient way, and in this way their problems can be effectively reduced".
Ayatollah Raisi emphasised the necessity and importance of listening to the demands of people with disabilities and clarified, "Paying attention to the opinions and demands of people with disabilities not out of pity but out of godly altruism should be followed and become a general culture".
Stating that it is possible to pay subsidies to people with disabilities to meet their needs and provide rehabilitation equipment, Dr Raisi said, "The next issue that should be given serious attention is the employment of people with disabilities. The Social Security Organisation can provide the list of people with disabilities who are ready to work to all organisations and government departments and companies so that their recruitment is prioritised in the fields where these people can work".
Ayatollah Raisi further mentioned the issue of providing housing for disabled people and stated, "Having housing is comforting for both the disabled person and their parents. This issue is a priority so that parents who have a child with a disability no longer have to worry about renting housing and moving constantly".
The President emphasised to the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development that the allocation of housing and land to people with disabilities and their families should be prioritised, and clarified, "The Ministry of Roads and Urban Development and the Islamic Revolution Housing Foundation should not delay this issue and pursue this as soon as possible".
Emphasising that all statesmen should consider it their duty to fully implement the approved laws for the protection of people with disabilities, the President said, "If there is a conflict between different laws, it should be resolved quickly, but the implementation of the law should not be stopped".
Ayatollah Raisi stated that according to religious culture, humanitarian principles, the constitution and relevant laws, all officials, statesmen and related institutions are obliged to pay attention to people with disabilities, adding, "Of course, only paying attention to the talents and capacities of these people is not enough, and we should pay attention and provide the necessary fields for the flourishing of these talents".
Appreciating all the services that have been provided to people with disabilities, the President noted, "Many people have worked hard in this field, which is worthy of appreciation, but we need to take a new step in the field of rehabilitation for people with disabilities".
