The former kickboxer-turned-influencer has confirmed he converted to Islam after a video of him being taught an Islamic prayer by Tam Khan went viral this week.
The social media star Andrew Tate, has confirmed that he is now Muslim, London World reports.
In a post shared from his account on the platform Gettr, the former kickboxer wrote: “This is why I’m Muslim. Any Christian who believes in good and understands the true battle against evil must convert. So be patient, indeed the promise of Allah is truth Quran 30:60.”
Andrew’s announcement comes after he was questioned on his thoughts about Islam earlier this year and described the religion as “the last true religion in the world”.
Meanwhile, the internet personality traveled to Dubai recently to speak at an event called 41 Tenets of Tate, which he failed to attend.
Earlier this week, British Muslim and former MMA fighter Tam Khan posted a video with Andrew in a UAE mosque.
The video, which was captioned ‘Alhamdhulillah’ which translates to ‘praise be to God’ in Arabic, showed Tam in a black prayer robe saying a prayer, while Andrew mirrored his movements.
The clip sparked all sorts of reactions on social media and many people thought that Andrew had converted to Islam.
Tam defended the controversial personality from online backlash and stated in a Twitter post: “I personally know Andrew & mashallah his love for Islam is genuine & it’s real. No PR stunts. He is one of us. I understand the sisters concerns also and yes.”
Andrew is an American-British kickboxer; born in Luton but grew up in Chicago. His father, Emory Tate, is a chess player.
As per his website, the 35-year-old has competed in the cruiserweight and heavyweight divisions. He had a brief stint in Big Brother’s British reality series in 2016.
Major streaming platforms, including Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok, have banned Andrew’s profiles due to his beliefs.
