AhlulBayt News Agency: A prominent Lebanese Sunni scholar described Iran’s University of Religions and Denominations as a symbol of Islamic and national unity.

Sheikh Ghazi Hanina, chairman of the Assembly of Lebanese Muslim Scholars, attended a ceremony marking the beginning of the academic year at the university.

Addressing the event, he said he was happy to be at a university that is a flag-bearer of Islamic unity and even strives to promote inter-religious unity.

Sheikh Hanina referred to unity as a very important issue that is a prerequisite for growth and development in every society.

He said the Assembly of Lebanese Muslim Scholars has strived to enhance Islamic unity during its 40 years of activities and continues to do so based on the guidelines of Imam Khomeini (RA) and Imam Khamenei.

He noted that more than 300 Shia and Sunni scholars in Lebanon are members of the assembly.

Sheikh Hanina said the assembly pursues three main goals, namely unity between Shia and Sunni Muslims, unity between Lebanon’s Muslims and Christians, and fighting terrorism and Takfiri elements.

“We resist and confront not only Israel and the global arrogance but also terrorists and Takfiris,” he added.

Elsewhere in his remarks, the Lebanese scholar appreciated the Islamic Republic of Iran’s support for Lebanon which has been facing US sanctions.
