Algerian scholar highlights need for raising awareness about Muslim Unity

The head of the Association of Algerian Muslim Scholars said the Muslim world needs to raise awareness and belief the importance of Islamic unity.

AhlulBayt News Agency: The head of the Association of Algerian Muslim Scholars said the Muslim world needs to raise awareness and belief the importance of Islamic unity.

On the sidelines of the 36th International Conference on Islamic Unity, Abdel Razzaq Kassoum said promoting and institutionalizing the culture of unity is a necessity that requires concerted efforts.

It is incumbent upon every Muslim man and women to help in promotion of the culture of Islamic unity, he stressed.

Enhancing this culture should begin from early childhood at home and continue in school, university and the media, Kassoum stated.

Referring to the various challenges facing the Muslim world today, he said all Muslims should resort to fraternity, solidarity and unity to thwart the enemies’ schemes.

He also highlighted the role of scholars in the Muslim Ummah and their responsibility to help institutionalize unity and foil the plots hatched by the enemies.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Kassoum referred to his country’s support for the cause of Palestine as a symbol of Muslim unity, saying Algeria is considered to be a symbol of opposition to normalization of ties with the Zionist regime.

He further hailed the good speeches and papers presented at the conference and said efforts are underway to organize similar gatherings in other countries and promote Islamic unity at the regional and global levels.

Pointing to peace and coexistence among different ethnic and religious groups in Iran, Kassoum went on to say that national unity in Muslim countries is a prerequisite to unity in the Islamic world.

The 36th International Conference on Islamic Unity was held here in the Iranian capital last week.

Some 200 foreign guests from 60 countries and 100 Iranian guest addressed the conference in person and virtually.

The International Islamic Unity Conference is annually held in Iran by the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought (WFPIST) on the occasion of the Islamic Unity Week.

The 17th day of Rabi al-Awwal, which fell on October 13 this year, is believed by Shia Muslims to mark the birth anniversary of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH), while Sunni Muslims regard the 12th day of the month (Sunday, October 9) as the birthday of the last prophet.

The interval between the two dates is celebrated every year as the Islamic Unity Week.

Late founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran Imam Khomeini (RA) declared the occasion as the Islamic Unity Week back in the 1980s.
