Association for Defending Victims of Terrorism (ADVT) issued a statement on Wednesday regarding Lebanese President Michel Aoun's speech about the plan to return Syrian refugees to their country.
At the beginning of this statement, it is stated that "the President of Lebanon, Mr. Michel Aoun, said in a speech in the past days, the return process of Syrian refugees in Lebanon will start as of next week. The process has been under review and its technical and implementation issues have been followed up in the ministerial committee for the past 4 years. In the first phase the refugees will be transferred to the safe regions and other people will be transferred after necessary arrangements are made and the government has guaranteed the safe and voluntary return of Syrian refugees in cooperation with international organizations.
In another part of this statement, it is stated that the President of Lebanon had previously announced that the international community in general and the European Union in particular are creating doubts by ignoring Lebanon's requests in this case; to integrate 2 million Syrian refugees in Lebanon with such pressures.
In another part of the statement, "According to the announcement of the Lebanese authorities, this country can no longer shoulder the responsibility of 2 million Syrian refugees at the physical, health, economic and environmental levels, etc. In addition, the life situation of these refugees in Lebanon is very miserable and worrying due to the economic problems caused by the Western sanctions against this country and the lack of support from international institutions.
In another part of the statement it is said, 3 years have passed since the defeat of the ISIS in Syria and many refugees have returned to the country and with the help of other citizens, regardless of various threats and difficult living conditions, they are trying to rebuild the country and continue their life, and they desperately need the support of the governments and the region and international organizations have been trying to put an end to the Syrian crisis and build the future of this terror-stricken country for a decade. According to the Lebanese authorities, many Syrian refugees in Lebanon have eagerly requested to return to their country and are confidently waiting for their return to their country.
At the end of the statement, the Association for Defending Victims of Terrorism stated that this decision is for the benefit of the refugees, the people of Syria and Lebanon, and it defeats terrorism in its inhumane goals. This Lebanese strategy for the return of Syrian refugees to their country will be very effective in strengthening global peace and security and will strengthen psychological and social security in Syria.
