AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement regarding the recent developments in Iraq and emphasized that Tehran always wants a stable, safe and robust Iraq.
Last Monday, Moqtada al-Sadr, the leader of the Sadrist movement, announced his decision to withdraw from politics, bringing Iraq into a new phase of the conflict.
Afterward, the rioters supporting Sadr's movement attacked some government buildings in the Green Zone of Baghdad. The conflict between these people and the Iraqi security forces resulted in the death of 30 people and the wounding of 700 others.
The statement noted that by expressing satisfaction at the return of peace to Iraq and praying for forgiveness for the dead, and wishing health to the injured in the recent incidents, the Islamic Republic of Iran appreciates the patience, wisdom, and tact of the Iraqi government and nation and all legal institutions of the country in overcoming great sedition.
The statement added that the Islamic Republic, as it has said before, considers the only solution for Iraq's exit from the current crisis to be resorting to dialogue-oriented approaches, maintaining citizen rights, respecting the country's legal institutions, adhering to the constitution and political processes, and hopes that all Iraqi political groups and currents will provide the right ground for the formation of a new government with their responsibility and constructive participation in the political process.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran has underlined in the statement that the Islamic Republic of Iran always wants a stable, secure, and robust Iraq that plays a constructive role in regional developments and has never withheld its support for Iraq's political and legal processes and institutions.
The Islamic Republic of Iran asks all political currents, personalities, and those interested in a strong and independent Iraq to respect each other's rights and demands in a peaceful and dialogue-oriented process along with political and social responsibility, all their demands and actions in the light of the law and block the way for any abuse by the ill-wishers of Iraq, the statement reads.
The statement pointed out that the Islamic Republic of Iran, considering the beginning of the Arbaeen pilgrimage days and the commute of millions of pilgrims towards the holy shrines of Iraq, emphasizes the need to respect the mourning rituals for Imam Hussain (AS) and collective efforts to establish comprehensive peace and ensure the safety of all pilgrims of the holy shrines.
At the end of the statement, it is stated that the Islamic Republic of Iran is confident that the Republic of Iraq will pass through this difficult stage with the help of God, the guidance of Mar'jas, the wisdom of the government, and the vigilance of the Iraqi people and all political currents.
