AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): A Quran competition was held in Baghdad, capital of Iraq, in commemoration of martyrs of resistance Lt. General Qassem Soleimani and Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis.
Titled “Leader of Victory”, the contest was organized by Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Units (PMU, also known as Hashd al-Shaabi) at its headquarters in Baghdad.
A delegation from the Dar-ol-Quran center affiliated to the Astan (custodianship) of Imam Hussein (AS) holy shrine supervised the competition, according to Safa al-Silawi, an official with the center.
Sheikh Khairuddin Ali al-Hadi, head of the center, also served as an arbiter in the field of Waqf and Ibtida.
Winners of the competition were awarded at a ceremony at the end of the Quranic event.
General Soleimani, the then commander of the IRGC Quds Force, and al-Muhandis, who was the deputy commander of the PMU, and a number of their entourage were killed in a strike by American drones near Baghdad International Airport on January 3, 2020.
The White House and the Pentagon claimed responsibility for the assassinations, saying the attack was carried out at the direction of US president Donald Trump.
Two days later, on January 5, 2020, Iraqi lawmakers unanimously approved a bill, demanding the withdrawal of all foreign military forces led by the United States from the country.
