Instagram blocks pages of Imam Reza holy shrine, custodian

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Instagram has blocked the pages of Imam Reza holy shrine and the Custodian of holy shrine without prior notice in the wake of popular campaigns to promote religious and revolutionary teachings.

Following the martyrdom of Lt. Gen. Qassem Soleimani in 2020 and the coverage of his massive funeral procession in the northeastern Iranian city of Mashhad, Instagram blocked the official page of the holy shrine and has limited the page under different pretexts ever since.

This is while the page strives to promote religious teachings and revolutionary principles besides broadcasting official news about measures, social services, and popular campaigns of benefactors in the holy shrine, all of which have proved to be socially efficient.

However, this social media platform, which claims to be the champion of freedom of expression, seems to be fundamentally at odds with issues such as popular campaigns, promotion of religious teachings, elucidation of sacred defense culture, dissemination of Islamic Revolution culture and achievements, and promotion of the Leader’s words.

This is not the first instance of such hostile behavior as the enemies of Iran had already blacklisted the custodian of the holy shrine, Hoj. Ahmad Marvi, in 2021.

Nevertheless, due to the massive presence of Imam Reza fervent pilgrims and the audience of the holy shrine on Instagram, attempts will be made to remove the ban since the religious organization is tasked with the duty of managing cyberspace to stand against hostile machinations as outlined by the Leader in his New Year’s message last year.

Therefore, until the removal of the ban, the official page of the holy shrine and that of the custodian will be accessible at aqr.ir and ahmadmarvi_ir respectively.
