AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): The grand imam of Egypt’s Al-Azhar says the West is targeting the Holy Quran based on a set of defined goals.
Speaking on a TV program in Egypt, Sheikh Ahmed el-Tayeb said that the West’s support for targeting the Quran is aimed at weakening the East and the Arab world. The West knows that the Quran is a source of strength and hence is using some political parties to damage Muslims’ source of strength.
These plots are doomed to failure, he said, asking why these people are not targeting the Torah and the Bible.
He was probably referring to comments made by Ibrahim Issa in a TV program who had claimed that the miracle of Mi’raj was a fake story.
Whoever denies the Mi’raj must explain where is the place of “Sidrat al-Muntaha” that is mentioned in the Holy Quran, el-Tayeb said, adding that, otherwise, the meaning of this phrase will remain incomprehensible.
The Sheikh of Al-Azhar called for respecting the Holy Quran, asking people to change their TV channel if they saw a program that tries to cast doubt on its teachings.
In a statement, Al-Azhar Center for Electronic Fatwa said that the Mi’raj is one of the fixed miracles of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) according to Al-Isra and Al-Najm Surahs and hadiths, Alwafd reported.
In late February, Al-Azhar slammed Issa’s remarks, noting that any insult to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and describing his miracles as illusions is tantamount to questioning the religious position of Islam’s Messenger and a clear offense and crime.
Al-Mi’raj or al-Isra is the nightly journey of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) from Mecca to al-Aqsa Mosque and from there to the skies. Both Shi'a and Sunni are unanimous regarding the happening of Mi'raj according to frequent verses and hadiths.
