AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): A high-ranking Iranian general emphasized the significant position of the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz in global trade, saying adoption of sea-oriented strategies would greatly affect the process of exports as Iran is faced with harsh sanctions.
In comments after a visit to Iran’s southern port of Shahid Rajaee, Major General Yahya Rahim Safavi, the top military adviser to Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, said a region will be considered strategic when the geopolitical, geoeconomic and geostrategic layers are overlaid.
“Considering the strategic position of the Persian Gulf, the Strait of Hormuz and the Oman Sea in trade exchanges, the adoption of sea-oriented strategy has a defining role in the process of exports, transit and economy of this region,” he noted, alluding to the strategies Iran can employ to deal with the harsh sanctions, particularly in the maritime industry.
In remarks in March, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei hailed the Iranian government’s success in increasing foreign trade and signing new regional contracts, emphasizing that the country’s economy should not be tied to the sanctions imposed by the US.
