AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian said on Wednesday that lasting peace in the region can only be achieved after the occupation of Palestine comes to an end.
The top Iranian diplomat made the comment in separate letters to his counterparts in Islamic countries, as well as UN Chief António Guterres and Secretary General of the Islamic Cooperation Organization Hissein Brahim Taha.
Amirabdollahian sent the letters in the wake of the recent Israeli aggression against Palestinians in occupied Al-Quds and at Al-Aqsa Mosque which is the third holiest site in the Islamic world.
He stressed that lasting peace in the region can also be achieved only after all Palestinian refugees return to their homeland, a referendum is held on their future system and finally an independent Palestinian state is formed, with Al-Quds being as its capital.
Amirabdollahian criticized certain governments and international organizations for keeping silent and adopting double standards over the Palestinian issue.
He said that such a stance has emboldened the apartheid Israeli regime to intensify inhumane measures against the Palestinian people and violate their rights.
The top Iranian diplomat expressed his deep concern over the latest developments in Palestine, including Israel’s desecration of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, as well as its aggression on fasting Palestinian worshippers.
Amirabdollahian strongly denounced the latest measures by the Zionist regime and said that they show its evil policy of changing the identity of Al-Quds.
He stressed that any measure that desecrates the holy sites of the Islamic world and hurts Muslims’ feelings is rejected and intolerable.
Amirabdollahian reaffirmed the Islamic Republic’s support for the Palestinian people in their struggle and resistance to uphold their human rights and said that such support is among basic foreign policy principles of Iran.
He stressed the need for firm and immediate action by the international community, particularly the United Nations Security Council, to fulfill their duties and support the Palestinians’ resistance.
