AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Ancient Turkish mosque Hagia Sophia will be hosting Ramadan ceremonies during the fasting month for the first time in nearly nine decades.
Following two years of delay due to COVID-19 restrictions, Hagia Sophia will be holding special ceremonies for the fasting month of Ramadan in 88 years.
As the situation is returning to normal following two years of COVID-related restrictions, and after communal prayers held in Hagia Sophia, the major mosque will host different programs during the fasting month of Ramadan including Qur'an recitation, Tarawih prayers and Itikaf ceremonies and religious meetings during Ramadan 2022.
As part of the special programs for Ramadan, 158 mosques across Istanbul will be open round the clock to host worshippers.
209 mosques will also welcome Itikaf worshippers maintaining all health protocols with each mosque admitting at most five worshippers.
In order to organize the programs, Istanbul Dar-ul-Ifta announces the events and participants to each mosque.
Ramadan is the ninth month in the Islamic lunar calendar and a special time for prayer among Muslims.
Muslims abstain from eating and drinking from dawn to dusk, recite Qur'an and pray.
Family Iftar meals and charity works are other traditions during Ramadan.
