AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Iran has started pilgrimage tours to Syria on the occasion of the Nowruz (new Iranian year) holidays.
The first group of pilgrims departed Tehran’s Imam Khomeini International Airport for Damascus this morning.
The process will go through March 31.
A total of 2,000 Iranian pilgrims will visit Syria’s holy sites during the holidays.
After the conclusion of the Nowruz, regular pilgrimage visits to the Arab country will resume.
According to agreements between Tehran and Damascus, some 100,000 Iranians are scheduled to visit Syria annually.
The first batch of Iranian pilgrims visited Syria in mid-January 2022 after a nearly two-year hiatus in the trips.
The holy shrine of Hazrat Zeynab (SA) in Damascus is the most important religious site for Shia pilgrims who visit Syria.
Religious trips to the Arab country were mostly suspended due to security concerns and in recent years because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
