Iran President: Protecting lives of civilians, respecting humanitarian rights for all parties to the Ukraine conflict important

Iran's President stated that the Islamic Republic of Iran supports any diplomatic effort that would lead to a peaceful settlement of the conflict in Ukraine and is ready to play a role for any assistance for the return of peace to the country.

Speaking on Sunday evening in a cabinet meeting, Ayatollah Dr Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi offered his condolences on the martyrdom of Imam Jafar (AS), and referred to the developments in Ukraine and said, "Based on its main foreign policy principles, the Islamic Republic of Iran is against domination and being dominated, and support all nations' right to decide for their own future".

The President stated, "While understanding the security concerns regarding the decades of NATO expansionism, the Islamic Republic of Iran emphasises the preservation of the territorial integrity and national sovereignty of all countries. We firmly believe that diplomacy and sincere adherence to international obligations by all parties is the only lasting and just way out of the current situation".

Ayatollah Raisi added, "The protection of the lives and property of citizens and civilians and the observance of international law and humanitarian law should be given serious attention by all parties".

Dr Raisi stated, "It is necessary for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other responsible agencies to follow the previous regulations in order to protect all Iranian citizens, especially our students in Ukraine".

In another part of his speech, while commemorating the Day of Educational Affairs and Islamic Education, Dr Raisi said, "Educational affairs in schools are among the memorials of martyrs Rajai and Bahonar".

The President further appreciated the efforts of the Ministers of Petroleum and Energy and the staff of the two ministries to provide sustainable gas and electricity in the winter despite the increase in consumption, and considered it a successful example of managing affairs for the benefit of the people.
