AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Senior Iranian theologian Grand Ayatollah Lotfollah Safi Golpaygani, the author of several notable books on Shia jurisprudence, passed away at 103, here is a short biography of his fruitful life.

On Tuesday, February 1, 2022, Ayatollah Safi passed away due to sudden cordial arrest after the physicians failed to resuscitate him.

Initially, he learned Arabic literature in his hometown Golpaigan, central Iran, and then continued his learning in tradition, principles of Islamic jurisprudence, Kalam, and interpretation (of Quran) there.

In 1941, he went to Qom, south to Tehran, for higher education and then to Iraq's Najaf for further studies.

He was a man of piety, contentment, patience, and frankness.

He authored more than 150 works in Persian and Arabic, 80 of which were translated into other languages. He was also a skilled poet.

Despite being very busy, the Grand Marja was also used to follow up the world's status quo, especially the Islamic world, through the media.

Ayatollah Safi also played a role in the fight against the US-backed regime of Shah in Iran; his books and speeches made the regime anxious such that the regime banned one of his works criticizing Shah's corruption.

The publication of Ayatollah Safi's important books, which he wrote in defense of Shia, was also banned in some Arab countries.

With the victory of the Islamic Revolution in 1977, he was elected a member of the First Assembly of Experts a year later and appointed by the late founder of Islamic Revolution Imam Khomeini as the Secretary of the Guardian Council.
