AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): A donor has donated a collection of 954 circulating banknotes of 77 countries to the Coins Museum of Imam Reza holy shrine.
Ebrahim Dezhgahi, originally from the southern Iranian city of Ahvaz, is a retired teacher currently living in the northeastern city of Mashhad, who donated the invaluable collection he put in 15 years and great fortune to garner.
“This collection is one of my most valuable belongings in life, hence I deem it worthy of being donated to Imam Reza holy shrine”, said the 64-year-old donor.
Gaining immortality has been cited as his primary motivation for collecting the banknotes; however, this was the best form immortality in his eyes. “I will definitely donate any other valuable banknotes I can get my hand on”.
According to the documentation expert of the museum, Mohammad Reza Shahroudi, the collection would appear in three albums based on a chronological order, and other factors including name of the country, nominal value and currency, issuance date, etc.
The bills in the collection came from a wide range of countries like Madagascar, Malawi, Malaysia, Mexico, Mongolia, to name but a few. Shahroudi also pointed to Brazilian bills issued from 1956 to 1958 as the oldest ones in the collection, noting that Iranian paper money of 1990s and early 2000s constituted the larger part of it.
The collection is the second major one documented and identified this year.
