AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Bahrain’s main opposition group, the al-Wefaq National Islamic Society, stressed the need for an end to the all-out aggression on Yemen and the massacre of defenseless civilians in the impoverished country.
The groups in a statement called for a serious political process in Yemen that will protect lives and safeguard the country’s sovereignty, Al-Alam reported.
It said war only brings about destruction and that killing civilians and targeting infrastructures in air raids on Yemen only lead to more crises.
Al-Wefaq also slammed the massacre of a large number of Yemeni civilians by the Saudi-led coalition in air raids on Friday and expressed condolences to the people of Yemen.
The coalition’s bombardment of Yemen’s Sa’ada and Hudaydah on Friday killed some 70 civilians and left nearly 140 others injured.
Saudi Arabia and a number of its regional allies – including the UAE – launched a brutal war on Yemen in March 2015. The war was launched to eliminate Yemen’s Ansarullah movement and reinstall former President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi, a staunch ally of Riyadh. But the campaign, accompanied by a tight siege, has failed to reach its goals, although it has killed hundreds of thousands of Yemeni people.
The UN refers to the situation in Yemen as the world's worst humanitarian crisis. The war has also taken a heavy toll on the country’s infrastructure, destroying hospitals, schools, and factories.
