Senior Shia cleric lauds Irloo's tireless efforts to help Yemeni people

The head of the Committee for Support of Palestinian People’s Islamic Revolution offered condolences on the martyrdom of Hassan Irloo, the Iranian ambassador to Yemen.

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): The head of the Committee for Support of Palestinian People’s Islamic Revolution offered condolences on the martyrdom of Hassan Irloo, the Iranian ambassador to Yemen.

In a message released on Wednesday, Sheikh Mohammad Hassan Akhtari described Irloo as an indefatigable Mujahid (one who struggles on the path of God) and a committed supporter of the world’s oppressed.

He said that since the beginning of the Saudi-led aggression against Yemen, Irloo made tireless efforts to help the oppressed people of the impoverished country.

Sheikh Akhtari expressed condolences over the martyrdom of the envoy to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution and to his family and colleagues.

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh said on Tuesday that Irloo achieved martyrdom due to COVID-19.

Khatibzadeh said that Irloo, who had sustained injuries in chemical attacks during the Iraqi-imposed war in the 1980s, contracted COVID-19 during his mission in Yemen.

He added that the envoy’s return to Iran faced delays due to belated cooperation from certain countries.

He therefore arrived in Iran with his health in a critical condition, the spokesman said, adding that Irloo was martyred early Tuesday morning despite medical treatments and efforts to help him recover.

Irloo had begun his diplomatic mission to Yemen in November 2020, in defiance of the anger of United States and some regional states at the two countries’ developing relations.
