6.4 earthquake strikes southeast of Iran

A strong earthquake with a magnitude of 6.4 hit southeast of Iran.

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): A strong earthquake with a magnitude of 6.4 hit southeast of Iran.

The earthquake shook Laft in Hormozgan province at a depth of 18 km. The quake was felt in Kerman, Bandar Abbas cities and Fars province.

Mehrdad Hassanzadeh, director-general of the Hormozgan Crisis Management General Office, said that all assessment teams were dispatched to the zone after the earthquakes.

Meanwhile, the Iranian Red Crescent Society Rescue Organization announced that six operational teams had been departed to the area in Qeshm Island and that the provinces of Hormozgan, Fars, and Kerman are on high alert.

Some sources also reported that two earthquakes of 6 and 6.4 magnitudes on Sunday evening hit Hormozgan province in a minute.

It has been reported that the strong quake was felt in Hormozgan province and Saudi Arabia, and the UAE.

A tsunami alert was issued in the Persian Gulf following the earthquake.
