Int’l Islamic Unity Conference to be held online in October

The 35th edition of the International Islamic Unity Conference will be organized virtually.

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): The 35th edition of the International Islamic Unity Conference will be organized virtually.

Hojat-ol-Islam Hamid Shahriari, the secretary general of the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought (WFPIST) said if the coronavirus situation improves, a limited number of foreign guests will be invited to attend the conference in person but it will be mostly held online.

He made the remark in a ceremony held in Tehran on Sunday to unveil the conference’s logo.

The cleric told IQNA that the international event is slated for October 24-29, which is during the Islamic Unity Week.

He said the main theme of the conference is “Peace and Avoiding Discord”.

There are also 30 other subjects that will be discussed at the conference, he added.

The 34th edition of the conference was also held virtually last year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

More than 160 foreign speakers from 47 countries as well as 120 Iranian figures delivered speeches at the video-conference.

The 17th day of Rabi al-Awwal, which falls on November 3 this year, is believed by Shia Muslims to mark the birth anniversary of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH), while Sunni Muslims regard the 12th day of the month as the birthday of the last prophet.

The interval between the two dates is celebrated every year as the Islamic Unity Week.

Late Founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran Imam Khomeini (RA) declared the occasion as the Islamic Unity Week back in the 1980s.
