European Shiites mark Imam Hussein (a.s.) martyrdom anniv.

Shia Muslims and admirers of the infallible household of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) mark martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein (PBUH) and his entourage at mosques and Islamic centers in different European cities.

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Shia Muslims and admirers of the infallible household of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) mark martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein (PBUH) and his entourage at mosques and Islamic centers in different European cities.

Thousands of devotees of the infallible household of the great Prophet participate in mourning ceremonies at Islamic Center of England, the Islamic Universal Association, Ayatollah Khoie Mosque, Imam Hussein (PBUH) Association, the Islamic Republic of Iran School and Tohid Center in London as well as Ahlulbayt Hussaynieh in Dublin.

Following the ease of restrictions for coronavirus pandemic in Britain, Shia Muslims have been able to hold mourning ceremonies as in the past. They started mourning rituals from the first day of the holy month of Muharram and held ceremonies in different languages of English, Arabic, Urdu and Persian.

Hashem Mousavi, representatives of Iran's Supreme Leader in England, took part in Ashura mourning ceremony in London.

Muslims from Iraq, Pakistan, Qatar, Azerbaijan Republic, Morocco, Syria and Iran come together to hold mourning ceremonies and commemorate the sacrifice made by Imam Hussein and his entourage to save the holy religion of Islam.

Shia Muslims also hold mourning rituals in other European countries such as Austria and Switzerland, while observing health protocols amid the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Imam Hussein - the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) - and his entourage were martyred in Karbala, Iraq, on October 10, 680 (10th of Muharram 61 AH).

Imam Hussein (PBUH) and his 72 entourage confronted Yazid, the second Umayyad caliph, in 680 aimed at preserving the holy religion of Islam and the traditions of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
