AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Mourning ceremonies marking the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein (AS) in the lunar Hijri month of Muharram will begin at the Imam Khomeini Husseiniyeh (religious center) in Tehran on Sunday night.
Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei will attend the rituals, which, unlike usual, will be held without the participation of people due to the coronavirus pandemic.
They will run for six nights and will include religious speeches and elegy recitations.
Every year in Muharram, the first month in the lunar Hijri calendar, Shia Muslims around the world commemorate the martyrdom of the third Shia Imam, Imam Hussein (AS), and his companions.
Imam Hussein (AS), a grandson of Islam’s Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon Him), and his 72 companions were martyred in the Battle of Karbala, in southern Iraq, in 680 AD after fighting courageously for justice against the much larger army of the Umayyad caliph, Yazid I.
