AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): An official with the Iranian Red Crescent Society said Iran will likely send some 2,000 pilgrims to Saudi Arabia for Hajj this year.
Ali Marashi, head of the society’s medical center, said the Saudi government has announced that it would receive Hajj 60,000 pilgrims from other countries this year.
He added that 15,000 more pilgrims from among those residing in the kingdom would also be able to perform the pilgrimage.
Given the quota given to different countries in previous years, Iran’s quota would be around 1,500 and with the recent efforts for rapprochement between Tehran and Riyadh, it could increase to 2,000 pilgrims, Marashi said.
He noted that Hajj pilgrims need to have been vaccinated against COVID-19 and the age limit for pilgrims is from 18 to 60 years.
Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Hajj and Umrah on May 9 announced that the Kingdom intends to hold the Hajj ritual for this year (1442 AH) under strict preventive protocols amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Hajj and Umrah Ministry said in a statement that the Hajj pilgrimage will go ahead this year with all the health, security, and regulatory standards and regulations in place in order to preserve the health and well-being of the pilgrims.
“Health institutions in Saudi Arabia will continue to assess the situation and take all the measures to preserve the health of all mankind,” according to a statement issued by the ministry.
