AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Iranian Qari Seyed Jassem Mousavi bagged the top prize in an international Quran contest in the Netherlands.
The closing ceremony of the competition was held online on Monday night.
A number of political and religious figures addressed the ceremony, including Morocco’s Ambassador to the Netherlands.
More than 700 men and women from 76 countries competed in the virtual Quranic event, held during the holy month of Ramadan in the category of Quran recitation.
In the men’s section, the panel of judges announced Mouavi as the top winner. The runner-up was Abdul Samad Mabruki from Morocco and another Moroccan, Hamza Munjid, came third.
In the women’s section, Quran reciters from France and Morocco cam first to third.
A number of Quran experts from Morocco formed the competition’s panel of judges.
Ramadan (April 14- May 13 this year), is the ninth month in the Islamic calendar. It is a period of prayer, fasting, charity giving and self–accountability for Muslims around the world.
During Ramadan, Muslims fast (abstain from foods and drinks) from sunrise to sunset.
They also devote a considerable amount of time during this month to reading and contemplating the Quran.
In this month, many Quran competitions are held in this month at different levels around the world.
