Sudan has a poor reputation for air safety, especially on domestic flights. The plane crashed around seven this morning (0400 GMT), shortly after taking off from Khartoum airport.
A witness at the airport said the left wing appeared to drop as the plane took off and that it crashed in wasteland on the edge of Khartoum airport. "The whole plane blew up in a fireball as it lifted off," he said.
Another witness said parts of the plane and huge patches of dark engine oil were everywhere.
The plane, which was headed to the southern Sudanese capital of Juba, is the second cargo plane to crash in Sudan since Friday June 27, when seven crew members were killed.
