Leicester City defender thanks Premier League after allowed to break Ramadan fast mid-game

Leicester City defender Wesley Fofana has thanked Crystal Palace and the Premier League for allowing him to break his Ramadan fast during their match at the King Power Stadium on Monday night.

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): Leicester City defender Wesley Fofana has thanked Crystal Palace and the Premier League for allowing him to break his Ramadan fast during their match at the King Power Stadium on Monday night.

As part of Ramadan, Muslims fast during daylight hours, making it difficult for footballers to maintain energy levels; Leicester's clash with Crystal Palace on Monday night took place as the sunset, and Wesley Fofana and Cheikhou Kouyate were permitted to break their fast mid-game.

It's believed to be the first time in Premier League history that a game has been paused to allow Muslim players to eat and drink mid-game, once the sun has set, in accordance with the rules of Ramadan.

Ramadan takes place this year between the evening of April 12, and the evening of Wednesday, May 12.

Kelechi Iheanacho scored a sensational goal and set up another as Leicester came from behind to boost their Champions League qualification hopes with a 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace.
