Statement of AhlulBayt World Assembly in response to strange sentence of Azerbaijan Attorney General

In response to the strange sentence of the Republic of Azerbaijan Attorney General, AhlulBayt World Assembly issued a statement.

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): In response to the strange sentence of the Republic of Azerbaijan Attorney General, AhlulBayt World Assembly issued a statement.

The statement is as follows:

In the Name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful

The request for 18 years of imprisonment for Mr. Haj Ilham Aliyev, the leader of the Islamic Party of the Republic of Azerbaijan, by the country’s Attorney General, saddened the Muslims of the world - especially the Shiites and the followers of the AhlulBayt (a.s.).

The request for a long prison sentence for this prominent cleric, who has always strived to promote Islam and has a special personality among the people of Azerbaijan in terms of piety and morality, is not acceptable at all and is against human rights laws.

In line with its inherent duty, which is to protect the rights of the world’s Shiites, reminding the religious capacity of the Muslim people and followers of the AhlulBayt (a.s.) school of Azerbaijan in the exaltation and development of civilization and the Husseini-like efforts of Ulama (Islamic scholars) and Shiites of the country on the battlefields of the recent war in Karabakh, the AhlulBayt (a.s.) World Assembly expect the government of the Republic of Azerbaijan – with a large population of Shiites – while tactfully stand against the divisive evil plots of the enemies of Islam, to pave the way for pardon and release of Haj Ilham Aliyev and all prisoner Islamists.

It is hoped that international and human rights organizations, the European Union, and especially Islamic countries, will be more sensitive to such issues and will take timely action to protect the rights of Muslims.
